Ring Measurement Methods

There are two ways to accurately determine ring size. Both are very simple, but maximum precision is necessary as it involves millimetric differences.
Now let's analyze each method.

Measuring a ring you already own

The first method involves measuring the inner diameter of a ring that you wear comfortably. Alternatively, measure the thickness of the finger on which you wish to wear the ring with a ruler.

Measurement should be taken in a neutral environment. This means that, for example, in cold weather fingers can contract, or if you've just come back from physical exertion, blood flow can cause fingers to swell. Ring size can vary depending on the time of day and ambient temperature.

For an accurate measurement of your ring size, it is advisable to use a ring sizer, which guarantees greater precision compared to approximate estimates.

Measuring finger circumference

The second method involves determining the circumference of the finger. Wrap a tape measure tightly around your finger (alternatively, a stiffer piece of paper, no wider than 2-3 mm and about 100 mm/10 cm long, or a string). When the paper or string is wrapped around your finger, mark with a pencil where the material intersects, forming a circle. Measure with a ruler the distance between the end of the material and the mark you made. The measured length in mm is the circumference of your finger.

What to remember for ring sizes

• When we talk about ring diameter, we mean the inner diameter, not the outer;
• The thickness of the ring can significantly affect the accuracy of the measurement, leading to a ring size larger than needed;
• Whichever method you choose, it's ideal to repeat the measurement at least three times for greater accuracy.
• However, if none of these options are available, and if the ring is a gift, a good idea is to start with an average size. The ring can then be taken to a jeweler for resizing;
• Don't forget that there are different ring sizes for each finger.
